At every stage of the girls’ growing process we focus on different aspects of care for them.  Brooding is a crucial point  in their lives.  Baby chicks are sensitive to temperature changes, drafts, and unknown noises. When they are chicks we need to direct them to the water to act as a “mother hen”.

As the girls begin to mature (before they lay their first egg they are called pullets) they can be sensitive to sudden movements.

Once they have laid their first egg they can be a little shocked to find a round hard mysterious object in their nest box or in this case… on the pen floor. Not all of the girls are laying yet and it will still be another couple of weeks before egg production goes up.
